How to Check Computer Monitor Refresh Rate in Windows

If you're going to upgrade your monitor, you may need to know the recent refresh rate of your display now.

Refresh rate affects much on the quality of images and videos. High refresh rate can support you to have the best watching experience while playing games or watching movies. 

The refresh rate refers to the times that the screen refreshes itself per second. For example, a 144Hz monitor refreshes 144 times per second. 

Up to now, the standard and popular refresh rate is 60Hz. Moreover, you can find some other which have higher refresh rates from 144Hz to 240Hz.

Except for some special professionals like gamers, video editors, or graphics creators, most people just need a standard monitor to work and entertain. 

However, it is absolutely possible if you want to upgrade your monitor to a higher refresh rate. Before buying the new one, you should check your current display’s refresh rate first.

General guide:

  • Go to Start (Window icon) → Settings System Display  

  • Click on Advanced display settings

  • Click on Display adapter properties for Display 1

  • Click on the Monitor tab

  • You will see your monitor’s refresh rate at Screen refresh rate

  • If your computer has multiple refresh rates, you can adjust them. Restart the computer to check whether the refresh rate is changed
